From Spálov to Dolánky

OUR TIP: Use the possibility of taking the drivers to Spálov and renting scooters for your way back.

Sailing from Spálov begins below the confluence of the Rivers Kamenice and Jizera. There is a small boating area with campsite called “Paraplíčko”, which is used as a training place for slalom racers. From there continues the sail through a narrow wooded valley up to Železný Brod, where is possible to sail through the sluice-gate when there is a higher water level and you are a more experienced watermen. If you don’t want to go through, or the sluice-gate is closed, carry the boats on the left side. In 2010 was finished reconstruction of the raceway and building of a modern hydro-electric power station, which takes a significant amount of water from the main riverbed. That’s why it is better to sail this part of river in spring months or while a water level is high (you can ask about the water conditions in our information centres).

From Źelezný Brod continues Jizera swiftly up to the weir in Splzov. The valley of Jizera is there narrow again and the surrounding steep slopes are densely wooded. The weir is during the normal level of water passable and the main riverbed of Jizera doesn’t for a long time allow sailing the river from the weir down. You have to use the raceway to the power station in Líšný. In this small village is located our base with possibility of refreshment and a scooter and boat rental. The stage from Líšný to Malá Skála is short and swift. In our main base with a rope centre and refreshment you can relax, regain your strengths, or continue onward to Dolánky u Turnova.

Boučkův statekJust a short way from the weir in Malá Skála, close to Boučkův statek, is the river joined by a race from the local power station and the water suddenly becomes alive. The current from the race will carry you to our newly reconstructed Guest house and pub Křížky.  The restaurant offers meals, sausages, soft serve ice cream, draught beer and beer in cans, which you can take to the boat. There is a big sandpit and playground for children. The part of the guest house is also barrier-free toilets. More experienced watermen can anchor on the right side under the bridge of the cycle path or use the placid place on the opposite bank.

Your journey then continues through flat, but deep valley up to Rakousy. There are huge turns in this part of the river, which goes through a beautiful area, full of beech forests and sandstone and limestone rocks. Behind Rakousy is Loužek, which lies in a rather secluded area, and from which you can see a rock lookout Zdenčina Skála.

From the level of Zdeničina Skála the river slows down and stretches. The weir in Dolánky is close, but before that you will see the well-known restaurant Zrcadlová Koza. From this place flows the river lazily to the weir in Dolánky, where you will anchor on the right bank. Your sailing ends there. But it doesn’t have to be the end of your journey. The area in Dolánky offers camping, or the possibility to rent a scooter in our information centre and return to Malá Skála via the Greenway Jizera cycle path. You can also visit Dlaskův statek before renting a scooter – a typical example of house in the Jizera foothills and folk museum of traditional crafts.
